Missions . . .
Women on Mission:
Women on Mission (WOM) focuses on mission education and mission
action for women. Heritage has two WOM groups that meet monthly (one
during the day, the other at night) to study, plan, and pray. WOM is
associated with the Southside Baptist Association Women's Missionary
Union and the Women's Missionary Union of the Southern Baptist
Convention. Our WOM supports Mission Friends for four and five year
olds, and we sponsor the Heritage Helping Hands quilting group.
Twice a year we prepare and serve dinner at the Baptist Collegiate
Ministries on Longwood's campus. There are three church-wide mission
offerings each year which are promoted by WOM. We stay in touch with
missionaries around the world and invite missionaries to speak to
our congregation when they are in the area and available.

Helping Hands of Heritage:
As
a part of WOM, this fun group of mission-minded women meets every
Friday at Heritage from 9 am until noon. The group sews a variety of
different quilts, using a variety of fabrics, but always for the
same reason – to make God’s love known in our community. The quilts
are donated to local people in need or as a love-gift to a deserving
person. The group thrives on its fellowship and invites anyone to
come to a meeting and help make a quilt for the less fortunate.
Donations of sewing supplies and fabrics of any kind are always
welcome. If you’d like more information, contact the church office
at 392-6119.

FACES (Local Food Pantry):
On
the third Saturday of each month, Heritage Baptist provides a team
of Christians to work at the FACES food pantry distributing food to
local people in need. The food pantry is a wonderful opportunity for
fellowship and for showing the love of Jesus Christ. FACES is
located on North Street in downtown Farmville. For information on
when you can help, check the
Calendar of Events. To contact FACES, call 434-392-6277.

In
July 2006, the Southside Home opened its doors to provide a
residential home for six adult men as part of the Developmentally
Disabled Ministry of the Virginia Baptist Children’s Home & Family
Services. Heritage Baptist Church donated 2 acres of land located on
the western edge of the church property for this home. Southside
Baptist Association maintains ownership of the home and it is
licensed and operated by the Virginia Baptist Children’s Home and
Family Services of Salem, Virginia. For more information, contact
the home at 315-0046.
